How do married people stay in love with their spouse when they are old, wrinkled, and grey?

Let me answer this with my own anecdote.
My wife has had medical problems that have caused her to lose her figure. She is now very thin and wrinkled, and in the past year she’s lost all her teeth. She has dentures but usually won’t wear them when she’s at home.
We’ve been together for just short of 41 years now.
Anyway, one day she was sitting on the couch folding clothes, so I sat down on the couch next to her and gathered her in my arms. That beautiful ( though toothless) smile was still there, as was the light in her eyes that has never dimmed.
And I held her and realized, “my God I will always love this woman”.
And above all, in those eyes I saw that she feels the same about old, arthritic and wrinkled me.

In my basement, I have a small metal lockable box. The kind that is typically used to keep cash in at garage sales. In that box is a picture of my wife. She was 20 years old and worked in a supermarket. Back then cashiers wore white uniforms, similar to a nurse’s outfit.
Anyhow, she is just standing, smiling, in her white dress. That’s all. No sexy. Just standing, and smiling.
When I look at her now, 50 years later, that’s what I see. I swear, in my eyes she hasn’t changed a bit.
I don’t know how that works, but it does.
